A popular bakery has been forced to shut one of its locations with its owners calling the announcement “heartbreaking”. Glasgow’s Rude Cookies are set to close their Shawlands cafe.
The brand will close its Minard Road location and move the cafe to its bakery at Morris Park. Posting to Instagram, owners Aga Taylor and Magda Lo Bianco said the decision was “a little heartbreaking”, but they believe it is “the right thing to do for our business”.
Magda said: “After a lot of careful consideration, we’ve decided to move our cafe back to our bakery in Morris Park, where everything started five years ago. Shockingly, a huge number of you guys still don’t know that we’ve been running two separate locations for the last three years.
“Our bakery in Morris Park is where we are every single day, making your cakes and cookies before delivering them to our cafe in Shawlands.”
She added: “Like many businesses running two separate locations has become increasingly difficult in the current economy.
“Bringing everything back together under roof just makes the most sense to us as a business.”
The owners said no staff will be losing their jobs and the exact moving date has not been confirmed yet, reports The National.
The unique cookie store sells “uncensored cookies and dreamy retro cakes,” it says on its website.
It adds: “You can buy our cookies online or pop in to our rude cafe and grab a coffee or matcha alongside your cookie.
“We also sell our viral Dubai chocolate, crunch pots, gooey cookies, greeting cards and other rude things.”
The store is open Wednesday to Sunday and urges its visitors to not be a “prude.”
The coffee shop became known for adult-themed cookie displays and an X-rated bathroom, which at the time the pair said may have been the “rudest in the UK”.
