A popular restaurant has confirmed “heartbreaking” closure plans after almost three decades in a UK seaside city. Gingerman in Norfolk Square, Brighton, was the flagship base of the Gingerman Restaurant Group when it opened in 1998, with a portfolio later including The Ginger Pig in Hove and The Ginger Fox in Muddleswood. The modern European restaurant, which is often described as the city’s longest-standing fine dining establishment, will close its doors this summer amid rising operational costs, its owners confirmed.
Ben and Pamela McKellar attributed the plans to “the rising costs of running a restaurant”, which they said have made it “impossible” for the 30-seater seafront business to continue trading.
“For nearly three decades, we’ve been proud to be part of Brighton’s food scene,” they said in a statement shared on social media.
“Any impact we’ve had is only because of your support, loyalty and the friendships we’ve built along the way. You kept coming back, championed us and made this journey far more than we ever imagined.”
