The beach will be closed between King Alfred Leisure Centre and Second Avenue.
A groyne to be added as part of the plan, as well as thousands of tonnes of shingle.
The closure forms part of a wider project that started earlier in the year, to add nine new groynes to the beach.
Once the work is completed, the beach will be 25 metres longer.
Work on the beach is expected to finish in November.
Cabinet member for Transport and City Infrastructure and councillor, Trevor Muten, said: “This is a really exciting phase of the scheme.
“It’s going to be great to see the barge offshore and the new shingle being pumped onto the beach.
“The completed groyne field is going to ensure the homes and businesses here are better protected from climate change, rising sea levels and storms.”
Storms have impacted the areas for many years, with tonnes of shingle washing up onto the promenade, he said.
The project will help reduce this and keep the promenade accessible.
Hove Beach has a long esplanade with a cycle lane. There is also a grass area, cafes and an amusement arcade.
Beach huts for hire can also be found along the promenade.
