Queen undergoes surgery after being rushed to hospital | Royal | News

Denmark’s former Queen has undergone a balloon angioplasty of the coronary artery, the Danish royal house has announced. They confirmed that Queen Margrethe, who was admitted to the hospital on Thursday, will remain there for a few more days.

The former Queen was admitted to Rigshospitalet, the largest public and teaching hospital in Copenhagen, on Thursday after suffering from a heart attack. The 86-year-old was undergoing observations and further examinations yesterday, and was said to be in “good spirits”.

This was confirmed in a statement before the announcement today, which has confirmed that a procedure has been undertaken.

In the latest update, the Danish royal house has said: “Her Majesty Queen Margrethe, who was admitted to Rigshospitalet on Thursday, has undergone a balloon angioplasty of the coronary artery.

“Queen Margrethe will remain at Rigshospitalet for a few more days, as previously announced. Her Majesty is in good health.”

The procedure is believed to be a minimally invasive procedure that helps improve blood flow to the heart.

According to the NHS, the procedure itself usually takes between 30 minutes and 2 hours, with some rest needed in the following days.

A further update is likely to be given by the Danish royal house when the former Queen is discharged from hospital.
