Sir Rod Stewart’s wife Penny Lancaster greeted King Charles with a peck on the cheek.

The monarch mingled with showbiz stars as he was joined by a host of celebrity ambassadors including David Beckham to mark his star-studded inaugural King’s Foundation Awards.

The King, 75, who has undergone cancer treatment, was joined at St James’ Palace, in London by close friend Sir Rod Stewart and his wife Lady Penny Lancaster, who couldn’t resist giving Charles a kiss on the cheek.

It comes after Penny’s husband Rod, 79, made a cheeky error while delivering a speech at the prestigious event leaving the audience in hysterics.

Before the Maggie May hitmaker took a swipe at ex-footballer David he told the crowd: “Penny and I are so honoured to be here as ambassadors for the King’s Trust.”

He swiftly took his other half’s hand as they interlocked their fingers and and she quickly nudged him, as she attempted to correct him, saying “Foundation… it’s Foundation.”

Rod mumbled: “B***ocks!” before he continued: “The Foundation, my apologies.”

As the audience laughed off his royal error, Penny covered her face following her beau’s mishap.

The rocker went on: “[We are] wonderfully honoured to be a Knight, and David [Beckham] yours is coming soon.”

Tonight’s award ceremony, saw nine awards given out, culminating in the monarch personally presenting The King Charles III Harmony Award, given to an individual to recognise their long-term commitment to the foundation’s mission.

It has been designed to celebrate students, teachers, alumni and partners of his foundation which provides educational courses, wellbeing programmes with the purpose to spearhead regeneration projects across the UK.

Other attendees at tonight’s festivities included actress Sienna Miller, editor Edward Enninful, model Naomi Campbell, gardener and presenter Alan Titchmarsh and chef Raymond Blanc who also handed out awards.
