Manchester United will be hoping for Rodri to do them a massive favour as they continue to shape their squad for this seson. Even though the Red Devils have already signed two central midfielders this summer, they are still believed to be in the market for a third addition. Michael Carrick reportedly wants a holding midfielder to succeed Casemiro, who left Old Trafford at the end of last season.
Over the last few weeks, several candidates have been linked with potential moves to United, including Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga. He is among those near the top of Carrick’s shortlist, according to The Guardian, and could be available for around £51million this summer.
It’s claimed that Real Madrid would be open to letting Camavinga leave for the right price, suggesting a move to Old Trafford could emerge as a real possibility.
The report adds that Real Madrid’s interest in Rodri could be a deciding factor. They are said to be exploring a blockbuster move for the Manchester City midfielder, who recently helped Spain to win the World Cup for a second time.
Personal terms have already been agreed, according to RMC Sport, but a transfer fee is yet to be negotiated. Rodri is only contracted to City until the end of next season, meaning they are under pressure to cash in on his signature.
The one-time Ballon d’Or winner has made no secret of his desire to return to Spain one day and is believed to be keen on joining Real Madrid this summer.
If they manage to sign Rodri, it would reportedly free up Camavinga to leave. United, therefore, will be quietly hoping that a deal can be struck between the Spanish giants and their cross-city rivals.
Camavinga is believed to favour the idea of staying at Real Madrid, but he would be pushed down the pecking order if Rodri is snapped up.
As such, it remains to be seen if his stance would change should United come calling in the not-too-distant future.
This would keep him on their books until the summer of 2031 and increase his asking price in the event United decide to firm up their long-held interest.
It seems Camavinga would be the most likely option for the Red Devils, but there is still plenty of time for things to change with just over five weeks until the window slams shut.
