Prince Harry was left off the guest list for his cousin Peter Phillips’ wedding to Harriet Sperling on June 6 because the groom’s loyalties lie with Prince William, according to royal commentator Emily Nash. Peter Phillips – Princess Anne’s son – has not spoken to Harry for the last few years, resulting in a natural cooling off, Ms Nash told Page Six. She said: “I think it comes down to interpersonal relationships, doesn’t it? He wasn’t invited as a result.”
Ms Nash noted that Mr Phillips is “very close” and “very loyal” to William, describing him as a protective sounding board for the Prince of Wales over the years. She added that having both brothers there “would have put a completely different slant on the whole event” and “that’s not what you want on what should be the happiest day of your life”.
William is expected to attend the wedding along with Kate Middleton, while King Charles is also likely to make an appearance. Ms Nash called the decision to exclude Harry a “smart” move to prevent the occasion from being overshadowed by family tensions stemming from Harry’s memoir, Spare, and his Netflix series with Meghan Markle.
Another source told the Examiner: “It is true that in the last few years they have drifted, but Harry says he’s 100% sure William is the reason that he’s been getting the cold shoulder from Peter.”
