One insider reportedly claimed the “King’s patience snapped” after Prince Harry repeatedly changed his mind over Palace accommodation, caused “disruption” for staff through the last-minute changes, and fuelled further public confusion with conflicting statements about the arrangements. The “constant to-ing and fro-ing” was said to have left the King’s patience “worn extremely thin”, with one source describing the situation to the Daily Mail as causing “disruption and disrespect” to his staff.
Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and their children had planned to travel to the UK together, marking the children’s first trip there in four years. However, the Royal and VIP Executive Committee rejected an application for taxpayer-funded, armed police protection during the London leg of their stay. Harry has therefore arrived alone due to security fears.
It was previously reported that Harry had accepted the King’s offer for him to stay at Buckingham Palace, but this offer was later “withdrawn”, with reports suggesting that he replied too late. As a result of the late response, arrangements cannot be made.
