The opening day of Queen’s has been hit by severe delays and play has been suspended after just one match was played. Olympic champion Qinwen Zheng had only contested eight points against her first-round opponent, Jaqueline Cristian, before the umpire came down from their chair and halted the tie due to rain.

Weather conditions in west London had hampred the competition on day one, with the start to play delayed by over two hours. Three matches were scheduled to open the tournament, with Karolina Pliskova also going up 1-0 against McCartney Kessler before being told to stop.
