The Mummy 4 to resurrect dead character from original 1999 movie | Films | Entertainment

Almost two decades on from the last movie and the original cast of 1999’s The Mummy are reuniting in a fourth film. Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are reprising their roles as Rick and Evelyn O’Connell from The Mummy and The Mummy Returns, after the latter was recast in 2008’s Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

There’s even a rumour that The Mummy 4 is a direct sequel to The Mummy Returns, retconning the non-Egyptian themed threequel entirely. Alongside John Hannah reprising Evie’s brother Jonathan, two more cast members from the 1999 action-adventure have been announced.

Oded Fehr, who played Ardeth Bay, the leader of the Medjai warriors who protect Egypt from mummies in the first two films, is back in his role. And joining him is Kevin J O’Connor, who portrayed Beni Gabor in the first movies. Fans will remember him as Rick’s former comrade from the French Foreign Legion who ended up serving the resurrected Mummy Imhotep.

At the end of 1999’s The Mummy, after Imhotep was defeated for the first time, our heroes rushed out of the tomb as the ceilings started closing in. However, Beni was weighed down by his looted gold and didn’t get out in time as the flesh-eating scarab beetles descended upon him and his flaming torch went out. Yet now his conman character is back in the new film. How? Either he didn’t die in that moment (unlikely), or he’s going to be resurrected as a mummy himself…

The Mummy 4 hits cinemas on October 15, 2027.
