His radio appearance saw him discuss a number of topics with Heart radio hosts Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden. This included talks about the Isles of Scilly, football and family life. While the radio interview was announced a few days beforehand, it seemed the radio station had a code name for it.
This codename was ‘Project Susan’ – as it rhymes with royal.
This name was inspired by singer Susan Boyle, who the radio station are a big fan of according to producer Matt Manley.
Writing on his public LinkedIn account, Heart radio producer Matt said: “We codenamed this ‘Project Susan’ (Susan Boyle -> royal)
“We told Kensington palace the code name and they loved it.”
The producer also said that the Aston Villa top they were supposed to give the prince during the interview was originally intended to say “Wills”, however the shop had run out of the letter I, which meant that they decided to get Heart printed on the back of the top instead.
He also revealed that the Heart Radio team saw Prince William the night before the broadcast, but all the team were too scared to say hello.
Prince William’s interview seemed to be a big success on Friday, with many tuning in to listen to the future King.
The prince spoke about a number of topics on the radio, including his wife Princess Catherine and their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
In a sweet comment about his wife, William said: “She’s an amazing mum and an amazing wife and literally our family couldn’t cope without her. So she has been absolutely stunning, really has.”
