Trump issues furious rant over ‘The Iranians take Trump for a sucker’ | US | News

After the Wall Street Journal ran an article with the headline “The Iranians Take Trump for a Sucker” in reference to Trump’s latest extension of his Iran war ceasefire, the president took to his platform Truth Social to blast the publication.

He said: “An IDIOT on The Wall Street Journal’s Editorial Board, named Elliot Kaufman, just wrote an Op Ed entitled, ‘The Iranians Take Trump for a Sucker.’ Really? For 47 years, they have killed our people, and many others, and taken advantage of every President, except me—And what did I give to them, a Country in tatters!”

Elliot Kaufman had argued in a recent op-ed that Tehran had “swindled” Trump three times — repeatedly promising to reopen the strait before closing it again to extract further concessions from Washington.

What did Trump say in his latest outburst?

Trump fired back directly, insisting the war in Iran had effectively been won after the US decimated Iran’s political and military leadership.

“Other Presidents did nothing to stop them, a BLIGHT on the Office of the Presidency! But despite all of this, I have a MORON on the Editorial Board of The Wall Street Journal writing about me being taken for a ‘sucker,'” Trump wrote.

“Iran certainly doesn’t think so! Neither does anyone else. I guess Rupert Murdoch told him to write it this way, because The Wall Street Journal has lost its way, no longer required reading, just another failing political ‘RAG!'”

What to know about Trump’s latest Iran ceasefire

Trump extended the US ceasefire with Iran hours before his own deadline was set to expire, delaying fresh military action at the request of Pakistan’s leadership.

The US President announced on Tuesday evening that he had agreed to hold off on any new strikes after being approached by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir.

Trump posted the update on Truth Social: “Based on the fact that the Government of Iran is seriously fractured, not unexpectedly so and, upon the request of Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, of Pakistan, we have been asked to hold our Attack on the Country of Iran until such time as their leaders and representatives can come up with a unified proposal. I have therefore directed our Military to continue the Blockade and, in all other respects, remain ready and able, and will therefore extend the Ceasefire until such time as their proposal is submitted, and discussions are concluded, one way or the other. President DONALD J. TRUMP”
