Donald Trump said to Arab leaders on a leaked phone call he will only come to a peace deal with Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz if they normalise relations with Israel.
A conference call was held between the US president and powerful leaders in the Middle East, including those from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey and Egypt on Saturday to discuss reopening the vital oil passageway.
It is reported that Trump warned the leaders to normalise ties with Israel.
This statement shocked Arab leaders to silence, refusing to respond to the US president, according to Axios.
Trump then joked after the prolonged pause, “Are they still there?”
He then continued, announcing that his envoys Jared Jushner and Steve Witkoff would follow up on Israel normalisation in the weeks ahead.

After the dramatic call at the weekend, peace talks between the US and Iran were stalled on Monday, due to Tehran’s uranium stockpile and the unfreezing of Iranian assets, according to the Wall Street Journal.
As a deal is being negotiated, Trump posted a new threat on his Truth Social site depicting him on the phone negotiating with a cartoon terrorist, warning he ‘will blow s*** up’.
The US president earlier posted that the deal will either be a ‘great deal for all’ or there will be ‘no deal at all’.
In the lengthy statement Trump had claimed negotiations with Iran “are proceeding nicely” but did warn that if a deal cannot be agreed upon, US forces would go “back to the battlefront … bigger and stronger than ever”.
He wrote: “Negotiations with the Islamic Republic of Iran are proceeding nicely! It will only be a Great Deal for all or, no Deal at all — Back to the Battlefront and shooting, but bigger and stronger than ever before — And nobody wants that!”
Despite these claims that the deal is coming along, Iran’s National Security Council has warned there will be “no retreat” in the war with the US – hours after Trump put pressure on Tehran for a peace deal.

Secretary Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr said the country’s military had shown “fierce resistance and pinned the enemy to the ground”.
He added: “Now more than ever, the country needs unity and cohesion so that the Americans and Zionists will also be disappointed in this regard.”
The statement comes after two senior Iranian officials travelled to meet the Qatari Prime Minister in Doha to discuss a peace deal with the US.
The leaders are joined by the governor of Iran’s central bank, there to negotiate the release of frozen funds alongside the other negotiations that are being made.
Trump added that it “would be something special” for Iran to join the Abramahm Accords – a series of agreements signed designed to normalise diplomatic, economic, and security relations between Israel and several Arab nations.
The US President added: “After all the work done by the United States to try and pull this very complex puzzle together, it should be mandatory that all of these countries, at a minimum, simultaneously, sign onto the Abraham Accords.”
