A popular Southampton city centre bar is set to close this weekend, marking the end of an era after more than 15 years in the city. Revolution Southampton will serve its final customers on June 7 before undergoing a major refurbishment and relaunch under a new name later this summer.
The Bedford Place venue, which first opened in 2010 and has been a firm favourite among students at the University of Southampton and Southampton Solent University, is among 20 former Revolution sites acquired by hospitality operator NEOS Hospitality following the collapse of parent company Revel Collective earlier this year. The closure comes after Revel Collective, the owner of Revolution and Revolución de Cuba, appointed administrators amid mounting financial pressures. The group cited rising operating costs and weaker consumer spending, particularly among younger customers, as factors behind its difficulties.

The administration process led to the immediate closure of 21 venues across the UK and the loss of 591 jobs, although a rescue deal secured the future of 41 sites and more than 1,500 jobs.
An email, seen by the Express and dated June 5, revealed the venue’s imminent closure. Customers with bookings after June 7 were informed that the bar would be unable to honour reservations and would instead issue full refunds.
The message said: “We have loved shaking your cocktails and creating unmissable days and nights out over the last few years, but as of 7th June 2026, we will be closing our doors at Revolution Southampton,” before apologising for the inconvenience caused.
While Southampton avoided the fate of many Revolution bars that closed permanently, the venue is now set for a dramatic makeover. NEOS Hospitality has confirmed the site will reopen as Barbara’s Bier Haus, its alpine-themed party bar concept, which promises a completely different experience from the cocktail-focused Revolution brand.

The transformation forms part of NEOS Hospitality’s wider strategy following its acquisition of 20 sites from Revel Collective, a deal which doubled the group’s estate to 40 venues nationwide.
Barbara’s Bier Haus is known for its après-ski-inspired atmosphere, featuring dancing bartenders in lederhosen, shot skis, themed DJs, beer and cocktail towers, shareable food and immersive entertainment designed to create a festival-style party environment. The Southampton venue will also include a number of the brand’s signature features, including a gondola lift installation, interactive entertainment and the much-talked-about “disco toilet”.
Russell Quelch, CEO of NEOS Hospitality, said in a statement: “Southampton is a fantastic city with a great late-night scene, and we see a real opportunity to introduce something different to the market.
“Barbara’s Bier Haus is all about creating memorable moments in a fun space, and this investment is about transforming a well-known central site into a more experience-led, high-energy venue that reflects what guests are looking for today.”

14 Revolution, six Revolucion de Cuba and one Peach site will close in 2026, impacting 591 employees (Image: Revel Collective)
A statement released by The Revel Collective in January read: “Immediately on appointment, the Administrators completed two sale transactions for the business and assets of the Group: (i) a sale of Revolution, Revolucion de Cuba and Founders and Co to Neos Holdco Limited and certain of its subsidiaries, trading as Neos Hospitality and (ii) a sale of Peach pubs to Coral Pub Company Acquisition Limited, founded by Ted Kennedy.
“The transactions secure the continuation of 20 Revolution, Revolucion de Cuba and Founders and Co bars and 21 Peach pubs and protect 1,582 jobs across the sites and central support function.
“Regrettably 14 Revolution, six Revolucion de Cuba and one Peach site did not form part of the transaction and those sites are being closed with immediate effect impacting 591 employees.”
