Signs above the windows read: “CLOSING DOWN. While stocks last.”
The branch in Colchester Retail Park on Sheepen Road is the only GO Outdoors store in the Essex town.
GO Outdoors is one of the UK’s retailers for quality outdoor gear.
First launched as a lone shop in Sheffield in 1969, it now claims to be the “UK’s biggest outdoor retailer”, with over 120 stores across the nation, stocking more than 600 brands.
The retailer caters for “anglers to campers, climbers, cyclists, equestrians, hikers, runners and more”, according to its website.
Customers can opt for the “good”, “better” and “best” versions of items and has a membership card service for additional discounts.
GO Outdoors was bought out by sports-fashion retailer JD Sports in 2017.
The chain is now part of JD Sports’ outdoor portfolio alongside Blacks and Millets.
GO Outdoors is the latest outdoor brand to shut a branch.
The Daily Express reported in May that another major outdoor brand was set to shut a branch in a UK city.
Trespass, which has 230 stores across Britain, said it was closing its shop in the Scottish city of Inverness at Eastgate Shopping Centre.
The date of the reported planned closure was not known, but signs have appeared, advising customers that the branch will soon be no more.
In January, the Daily Express reported that popular British outdoor brand Alpkit entered administration after reporting a £1.46m loss in 2024.
The brand said the “extremely sad” move came after it experienced “incredible challenges over the last three years”.
