UK snow LIVE: Met Office forecast pinpoints areas of Britain to be hit by more snow today | Weather | News

The Met Office says more snow is on the way to the UK as weather warnings are issued across the country. After many areas of Britain were battered by freezing conditions on Tuesday morning and afternoon, the Met Office’s forecast said an Arctic airmass is set to bring more snow as Storm Goretti also brings rainy conditions to some areas.

An amber warning is in place for snow in northern Scotland until 7pm on Tuesday, alongside a snow and ice yellow warning over much of the nation, ending at 11.59pm today. An ice warning over Northern Ireland will be in place from 6pm today to 11am on Wednesday. On January 7, much of the country will be covered by a yellow warning, with northern Scotland under a 24-hour snow and ice alert and a large part of the rest of Scotland, England and Wales under a yellow ice warning for the first 10 hours of the day.

Met Office Chief Forecaster Jason Kelly said: “A further spell of snow is expected to move east across central and northern Scotland today (Tuesday). Amber warnings are in place until 7pm this evening. Elsewhere, snow showers will be mixed with rain and sleet, and it will be another very cold day, with strengthening winds too.” The agency’s forecast for Wednesday says: “Dry for many with sunny spells. Scattered wintry showers continuing in Scotland and some western areas.”
