Waitrose will slash food prices on items like eggs, tomatoes and butter by up to 75p in a new drive to offer customers greater savings. The supermarket giant announced it will invest more than £20 million into lower prices, cutting costs by an average of 12% on more than 160 own-brand items.
Waitrose’s New Lower Prices strategy means customers can save on kitchen staples starting today. This includes items like free-range eggs, unsalted butter and chopped tomatoes. Some of the biggest reductions include savings of up to 50p on spinach and 75p off chicken thighs.
The reductions have been focused on core household products, including fresh, frozen and cupboard staples.
The supermarket said that almost half of these reductions are on products from the Essential Waitrose range, with 47% of discounted items coming from this section.
Further discounted items include tomato ketchup and frozen garden peas.
Nathan Ansell, Waitrose’s chief customer officer, said: “Customers are watching what they spend, but they don’t want to compromise on the food they buy.
“This investment is about doing the right thing for our customers, helping them save on the products they shop most often, while keeping the quality they expect from Waitrose.”
He added: “We know our customers – the Food Lovers who shop with us – want to feel confident in the food they buy, without compromising on what matters to them.”
Customers can save in-store and online. An example of some of the discounted items, along with their price cuts, are listed below:
