Welcome to today’s live Washington Open blog, bringing you the latest on both the men’s and women’s final, which were suspended and postponed on Sunday.
Bad weather, including rain and lightning, originally forced the men’s doubles final of Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool vs Austin Krajicek and Nikola Mektic to be suspended. In a statement, tournament organisers said: Play will not resume before 2:45pm EST (7.45pm BST) due to rain and lightning. Everyone on site should seek shelter immediately.”
Upon their return to court, the British duo of Cash and Glasspool came out on top, winning 6-3, 6-4. But the weather problems didn’t stop there.
The break in bad weather means that the women’s final vs Jess Pegula and Alex Eala started. But with Pegula one set up (1-2 in the second set), players were forced to leave the court.
After pushing back the restart time, the decision was made to cancel the rest of Sunday’s play. The women’s final will restart at 12pm EST (5pm BST) with the men’s final between Taylor Fritz and Rafael Jodar not before 1pm EST (6pm BST).
