Wimbledon fan proposes during Novak Djokovic match as star requests wedding invitation | Tennis | Sport

Novak Djokovic’s clash with Yibing Wu on Centre Court at Wimbledon was interrupted by a fan proposing to his girlfriend. And after the lady said yes to the ring, Djokovic requested an invite to the wedding.

Djokovic was returning to his side of the court at the start of the second set when he saw the crowd cheering for the newly engaged couple. The Serb gave them the thumbs up before asking: “I want an invite to the wedding.”

Djokovic then made a heart shape with his hands as the Centre Court crowd cheered in celebration.

The man, sporting long curly brown hair, a blue shirt and blue glasses, got down on one knee to pop the question.

His partner, in a white, blue and yellow pattered dress, paired with pink sun glasses, gladly said yes as they gleamed back at Djokovic, giving him a thumbs up.

BBC presenter Clare Balding was initially bewildered by the proposal. She said: “Maybe that thumbs up from Djokovic was to John [McEnroe]?”

Andrew Cotter added: “It was a heart he was making so maybe that was to John.”

McEnroe cleared up the situation, explaining: “He just said he wants an invitation to the wedding… this lady was just asked if she would marry that gentleman. Quite a moment for these two.”

But Cotter wasn’t interested at all. He responded: “Alright, let’s concentrate on the tennis everyone.”
