Wimbledon 2026 round one prize money explained
- Total prize money: The total prize money fund for the Wimbledon Championships 2026 has been set at a record-breaking £64.2million across all of the events. This represents a massive 20 per cent increase from the 2025 total of £53.5m, marking the largest single-year uplift in the tournament’s history as noted by the All England Club.
- Qualifying rounds: The financial rewards have also been boosted before the main draw even begins, with the total prize money for qualifiers rising by 25 per cent overall. It means players who exited in the very first round of qualifying will still take home £20,000.
- First round singles prize money: Players who participate in the first round proper of the singles draws will receive a highly lucrative guaranteed fee of £80,000. This figure marks a substantial 21.2 per cent increase on the 2025 amount of £66,000, ensuring lower-ranked competitors are well compensated for reaching the main draw.
- Singles champions: The winners of the men’s and ladies’ singles tournaments will each take home a staggering £3.6m for lifting the iconic trophies. This is a significant bump from the £3m awarded to each singles champion in 2025.
- Men’s and ladies’ doubles: The teams of two competing in the first round of the men’s and ladies’ doubles will receive a payout of £18,000 per pair. Although this amount must be split between the two participating athletes, it remains a crucial source of income for those who specialise in the doubles format on the professional tour.
- Mixed doubles: Those teaming up for the mixed doubles competition will be awarded a first-round prize money allocation of £5,200 per pairing. While this is a smaller payout compared to the other main adult draws, the mixed event continues to be a historic fan favourite and extra earner for players also competing in the respective singles draws.
- Wheelchair singles: Competitors featuring in the first round of the men’s and ladies’ wheelchair singles events will earn a guaranteed sum of £12,800.
