Wimbledon star in hot water after breaking strict dress code | Tennis | Sport

Wimbledon star Jessica Bouzas got a stern telling off from the umpire after she came close to breaking the strict all-white dress code. Spanish star Bouzas comfortably beat Anastasia Potapova 6-2, 6-3 on Court 17 but something on her outfit caught the official’s eye after the match.

Bouzas was wearing a black undershirt that became slightly visible on her lower back towards the end of her victory. And she was reprimanded by the official to make sure it does not happened again.

Bouzas stood on the court looking up at the umpire sat in her chair as the crowd were starting to clear out. And afterwards the world No. 52, who reached the fourth round here last year, expained what the discussion was about.

“A problem here is that they are very strict with many things,” Bouzas told Movistar Plus Deportes.

“I think it was a bit of black here, and you can’t do that, so I will have to sort it out. But yes, they are very strict with things like this, so now I’ll see how I can fix it.”

Wimbledon‘s strict guidelines state: “Competitors must be dressed in suitable tennis attire that is almost entirely white* and this applies from the point at which the player enters the court surround.

“White does not include off white or cream.

“There should be no solid mass or panel of colouring*. A single trim of colour around the neckline and around the cuff of the sleeves is acceptable but must be no wider than one centimetre (10mm).

“Colour contained within patterns will be measured as if it is a solid mass of colour and should be within the one centimetre (10mm) guide. Logos formed by variations of material or patterns are not acceptable.”

Bouzas set up a second-round showdown with Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska.
