A bearded transgender woman who has a “grotesque obsession” with soiled adult nappies has been jailed after being caught rooting around inside a bin – in breach of a previous court ordering her to stay away from poo. Martin Tarling, who uses the name Abbi Taylor, was previously caught smearing excrement on milk bottles and on the fire escape of a nursery as part of a vile reign of offending against care homes and children’s nurseries where she hunted for dirty nappies and incontinence products.

Her Facebook profile proudly referred to her as being an “adult baby diaper lover”. In 2023, the defendant was made subject to a criminal behaviour order which prevented Taylor from going within 100m of nurseries after being convicted of causing harassment, alarm or distress at a care provider. Taylor then breached the order and was made subject to a two-year suspended prison sentence in August last year for a series of offences. Now Taylor has been back in court for breaching the criminal behaviour order four more times and was jailed for 30 months.

Recorder Tony Hawks, at Newcastle Crown Court, told Taylor: “The purpose of that order was to tackle what is a grotesque obsession your apparently have in rooting around in bins near care homes and nurseries in order to retrieve soiled nappies or soiled incontinence wear.

“It’s the view of the psychiatrist you are not motivated in the behaviour by any sexual motive. I’m prepared to accept that.

“However, your conduct is clearly anti-social and extremely distressing to people who are affected by it. You’ve got to understand, when you are released from custody, that if you continue to behave in this way, you will receive longer and longer periods of imprisonment.”

Claire Anderson, prosecuting, said on December 27 last year a woman whose partner requires incontinence pads noticed some of them had been taken from their bin and were lying in the garden, which she initially put down to the windy weather.

But later that day the same resident heard a noise and added: “She looked outside the bedroom window and saw the defendant.”

The court heard Taylor had her “foot inside the bin” and the victim shouted “what the **** are you doing”, which prompted her to flee carrying a bag of rubbish.

The following day Taylor went back to the same address and was told by the same resident to “get out of the bin” but again stole a bag of rubbish from it with her.

Miss Anderson said: “This time she was able to take photographs which were later identified by the police as the defendant.”

On December 29 and January 7 Taylor targeted a Tyneside address and repeated the behaviour. The 47-year-old, of South Shields, admitted four breaches of the criminal behaviour order.

Recorder Hawks said of the new offending: “They are grotesque, they are grossly anti-social and, no doubt, cause considerable distress to people who have to witness or are affected by your behaviour.”

The court heard Taylor has 99 previous convictions, mainly for driving or dishonesty offences.

Nick Lane, defending, said: “There is no evidence of any sexual motivation in this case. The doctor urges the court to distinguish between what may be considered unusual or anti-social distressing behaviour and those cases where there’s a diagnosed paraphilic disorder.

“She has been in custody now for a significant length of time. She’s determined to continue working when she’s released, she’s been working very well with probation.”

Last year, while on bail for dumping soiled adult nappies at nurseries, Taylor was caught having clambered inside a wheelie bin with her trousers down by an alarmed resident who captured the incident on video.

Staff and parents at nurseries were also left horrified by the actions of Taylor, who also smeared excrement on milk bottles and on a fire escape of one of the nurseries. Workers at a nursery in Cleadon noticed nappies had been dumped on the premises and in May 2023, a female member of staff saw Taylor exiting from one of the waste bins.

The manager at a South Shields nursery reported seeing someone “raking around inside” one of the clinical waste bins in January 2023.

Staff at a nursery in Jarrow initially believed a rival business might be dumping waste on their premises when they found up to 50 soiled nappies on site.

Taylor was interviewed and admitted to going into a bin “to sleep and find comfort”. The court was told of similar previous incidents going back to 2019.
