B&M announces 13,000 sq ft mega store in old Debenhams | UK | News

B&M has announced plans for a 13,660 sq ft mega-store in a former Debenhams premises. The budget retailer says its new outlet will offer homeware, health, food and beauty products from its usual range.

Bargain-hunters can look forward to the branch opening at Thistles Shopping Centre in Stirling later this year.

B&M‘s presence in the centre is also expected to generate jobs for locals, according to Retail Times.

A spokesperson for B&M Thistles Stirling told the publication: “We’re feeling extremely positive about the creation of more jobs for local people… We hope customers are going to be delighted with their new store.”

Thistles Shopping Centre’s director, Gary Turnbull, described B&M moving into the former Debenhams premises as a “really positive step” for the retail hub.

He said: “Bringing a much-loved brand into such a prominent space reflects the continued demand we’re seeing from both retailers and shoppers.”

B&M has been opening more branches and refitting some of its existing outlets across the country.

A branch in Beeston, Nottinghamshire, this week completed a refit, with increased floor space and an “improved” range of products.

Stores have also been refitted in Liverpool, Berwick, Llandudno and Seaham this year, while B&M has opened branches in Fort William, Waltham Cross, Diss, Peterhead and Middlesbrough.

Debenhams was once a high street stalwart, with large premises in towns and cities across the country.

While the Debenhams brand and website were purchased by Boohoo in 2021, bricks and mortar stores shut their doors for the final time, leaving some buildings at risk of becoming derelict.

However, Primark announced in April that it would take over a former Debenhams site in Wakefield, West Yorkshire.

A former Debenhams department store looks set to be demolished to make way for student accommodation in Norwich.

Plans to turn another former Debenhams shop in Oxford into lab spaces in a £125million scheme have also got the green light from the city’s council.
