Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has sent his congratulations to Marcus Rashford following his La Liga title victory on Sunday during his loan stint with Barcelona. The Reds loanee broke the deadlock with a stunning free-kick against bitter rivals Real Madrid.
The Catalan club emerged as 2-0 winners to secure back-to-back Spanish top-flight crowns, with Rashford revealing after the match that he wished to finalise a permanent switch to Barca. The La Liga side hold a £26million purchase clause in their loan arrangement with United to acquire his services. Barcelona have until June 15 to activate their buy option for the 28-year-old, though reports from Spain suggest Barca are hesitant to pay the agreed sum and may attempt to renegotiate it.
United have no intention of welcoming their academy product back into the club’s first-team squad, leaving his future uncertain.
Nonetheless, it seems the forward still enjoys considerable support back at Old Trafford, with Fernandes posting a message on his Instagram stories. He said: “Congratulations my brother. You deserve that.”
Barca head coach Hansi Flick has voiced his satisfaction in working with Rashford, though declined to comment on talks regarding his future at the Camp Nou. He said: “I’m very happy with Marcus.
“He has shown his quality and he scored an important goal. I can’t say anything about his future, we have to focus on the matches until the end of the season.”
Rashford has netted 14 times and laid on a further 14 assists across all competitions for Barcelona this season — helping the Catalan giants clinch La Liga and the Spanish Supercopa.
Addressing reporters after the match on Sunday, he said: “It’s really good. I come here to win. So this is, I want to win as many things as I can. So, this is one more to add to this.
“Yeah, this team is a wonderful team. They’re going to win so much in the future as well. So, to be a part of that would be special. So we will see.”
