The couple’s visit marks the first visit to the country for a royal since 2011, when King Charles and Queen Camilla stepped out as the then-Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall. Taking to X, fans noticed one major thing about Edward and Sophie’s trip today – how happy the couple look.

One royal fan wrote: “Loving how happy they look and all the amazing photos and videos, as you can imagine.”

Another added: “I love how happy they look,” to which another fan commented, “So do I [red-heart emoji].”

A fourth also wrote: “Beautiful couple always laughing,” followed by quite a few heart emojis.

Praising the couple, who are known to be two of the most popular members of the Firm, another fan added: “Lovely Couple. She always looks so beautiful. He always looks so dapper.”

The couple’s visit will see them carry out engagements in both Lisbon and Porto, while also taking time to focus on issues important to them, such as youth opportunities and women, peace and security.

Edward and Sophie’s jam-packed itinerary closely focuses on celebrating shared history and championing new partnerships.

The couple last visited Portugal together in May 2005, as The Earl and Countess of Wessex.

The Duke of Edinburgh also visited on his own in June 2009.
