The UK is basking in hot temperatures today (Saturday, May 23) with the mercury topping 30C in some areas. Pictures from across the nation show people out enjoying the sunshine, with some swimming, attending festivals, cycling and relaxing at the beach while others sit in mammoth queues at Dover.
A UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) amber heat health alert is in place for the East Midlands, East of England, South East and West Midlands until 5pm on Wednesday (May 27). A yellow alert also covers the North West, North East, South West, and Yorkshire and the Humber with the roasting temperatures set to last throughout the Spring Bank Holiday weekend.
Forecasters are predicting temperatures to hit 34C on Tuesday with London set to see its hottest May day on record. It comes after the mercury hit 38.4C in Heathrow, Cambridge and Cranwell in Lincolnshire on Friday afternoon (May 22) to mark the hottest day of the year so far.
