King Charles may be a royal, but this does not stop his sense of humour from making an appearance from time to time. While there is an expectation for the monarch to be very professional, he does sometimes show his cheeky side during royal engagements.
An example of this is when the King met Devil Wears Prada star Vanessa Williams at the Royal Variety Show. Vanessa, who starred on Ugly Betty, had performed a magic trick at the show, watched by the monarch. However, Vanessa had a bit of a struggle during the trick, with the King cheekily bringing this up during their meeting.
Recalling the moment, the Hollywood star told Hello! Magazine: “When I did the Royal Variety Show, I did a quick magic trick with Penn and Teller, and I had to open up a padlock, and I had a little trouble getting it open, so he (the King) mentioned: ‘You had a little trouble getting that lock open, ‘ but that was the only cheeky thing that was said.”
She then went on to say that she is a fan of the King and the Royal Family, and has been from a young age.
She said while chatting to the magazine at Wimbledon: “I watched Diana’s wedding to King Charles – I was in high school at the time – we all got up at four in the morning to watch it live so the fact that I got to follow in her footsteps, shake royalty’s hands, is a dream come true.
“I was at Royal Ascot last week, it was just incredible, I saw the King arrive.”
The royal also reportedly shows this at home in front of his family and royal staff, and even reportedly is known for pulling pranks on staff members.
