Manchester United will be hoping to use the transfer window to build on their recent upward momentum. Michael Carrick steered the club back into the Champions League during his caretaker stint and will be eager to strengthen his ranks. The departure of Casemiro has thrust central midfield to the top of United’s list of priorities. A deal has already been struck for Atlanta sensation Ederson, with Carrick’s side expected to make further additions in the middle of the park.
United enjoyed the benefits of no European football last season and will need a deeper squad to cope with the demands of multiple competitions. They are said to be chasing a new left-back to challenge Luke Shaw for his starting berth, with Eintracht Frankfurt defender Nathaniel Brown among those linked with a move to Old Trafford. Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford has broken his silence after watching England team-mate Anthony Gordon complete a transfer to Barcelona.
Here are some of the biggest stories currently surrounding United…
Target ‘agrees personal terms’
Eintracht Frankfurt left-back Nathaniel Brown is said to be edging closer to a switch to Bayern Munich, with the Manchester Evening News reporting that Brown is amongst a number of left-backs currently on United’s radar.
Sky Sport Germany have claimed that the 22-year-old has agreed personal terms with Bayern on a deal until 2031.
However, the the Bundesliga champions are yet to meet Frankfurt’s £51.8million asking price.
This leaves the door open for the deal to collapse should Bayern and Frankfurt fail to reach an agreement on the transfer fee.
Brown contributed four goals and four assists in 33 league appearances last season.
Rashford has made his feelings about Barcelona known following the club’s decision to sign Gordon.
The deal leaves Rashford’s future shrouded in uncertainty following his loan spell at the Camp Nou, having repeatedly expressed his desire to remain there permanently.
Gordon’s presence on the same flank as Rashford raises questions over whether the latter has a long-term future at Barcelona. However, the former Newcastle United winger has shed light on how Rashford reacted to his transfer, with both players currently part of England’s World Cup squad.
“He was just telling me how good the lads are there, the team spirit that they have, which I heard already from the people in Barca,” Gordon told talkSPORT.
“So I’m really looking forward to joining up with them. He was also telling me about the city, places to live. He’s a lovely guy, very caring. So he was just giving me a bit of information.”
