Manchester United face a pivotal transfer window as manager Michael Carrick looks to build on his encouraging start in the Old Trafford hotseat. The Red Devils will be determined to improve on last season’s third-place finish and stamp their mark in the Champions League. Brazilian midfielder Ederson is on the verge of completing a switch to United from Atalanta, with further additions – and a handful of departures – also expected.
With Casemiro having departed following the expiry of his contract, reinforcements in midfield are needed, and United are reportedly embroiled in a battle with Tottenham for West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes. The Portuguese international is among several players being linked with a move to Old Trafford, alongside Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali. Elliot Anderson, another target United had been keen on, has opted to join Manchester City instead.
On the outgoings front, goalkeeper Andre Onana appears set to extend his loan spell at Trabzonspor, with the Turkish club covering his wages and paying a loan fee. Express Sport takes a closer look at some of the latest news coming out of Old Trafford…

Promising young midfielder Cristian Orozco is preparing to begin his Man United career as he approaches his 18th birthday. United agreed a deal to sign the Fortaleza CEIF starlet last September but must wait until July 13, when he comes of age, to officially register him.
United are moving swiftly by bringing him to Manchester this weekend, alongside chief scout Giuseppe Antonaccio, to kickstart his acclimatisation and complete his medical.
Given his young age, the Colombian, whose playing style has drawn comparisons to Chelsea‘s Moises Caicedo, is viewed as a prospect for the future and will initially be integrated into United’s under-21 squad.
That said, some first-team involvement next season cannot be ruled out. With United competing in the Champions League, Carrick may heavily rotate his squad in the Carabao Cup.
United have approached World Cup star Felix Nmecha, according to reports from Germany. Multiple clubs are believed to be pursuing Borussia Dortmund’s Nmecha, who has received glowing praise for his displays in North America thus far this summer.
Sky Germany claim United are attempting to fend off the ‘increasing competition’ for the 25-year-old and remain undeterred by his lengthy Dortmund contract, which still has four years remaining and contains a £75.5million buyout clause.
Newcastle are also understood to be keen but are reportedly seeking to reduce the asking price, potentially creating an opportunity for Man United to pounce. A switch to the Premier League appeals to Nmecha, who is the younger brother of Leeds United forward Lukas.
For the time being, Felix’s attention will be on the World Cup, where Germany meet Paraguay in the last 32 after finishing top of Group E.
