Saddy, known on TikTok as @saddy542020, has taken to social media to share her knowledge. While spaniels, Labradors and pugs are common companions here in the UK, they didn’t actually make it onto her list.
The vet acknowledged every breed carries advantages and drawbacks, but these are her personal favourites based on temperament and other traits.
In her caption, she said: “We see lots of posts about breeds vet professionals wouldn’t own, and while I agree with the majority of them, I feel like it’s time to see the opposite of the narrative!
“All breeds have their unique personalities and health issues, but that shouldn’t be the end-all, be-all. Again, this is personal preference based on personal experience and others don’t have to agree.”
Plenty of people appreciated Saddy’s advice and her video has garnered more than 214,000 likes.
However, some were disappointed their favourite breeds hadn’t made the list. One wrote: “Labrador Retrievers. Would never own another breed.”
Another said: “I feel like I never see cocker spaniels any more. Had them growing up and I’ll always have a soft spot for them.” And a third added: “Sad to see Rottweilers didn’t make the list.”
No matter which breed you pick, you should always do your research before getting a dog.
Energy, size, grooming, temperament and time are among the factors you should consider to ensure a pet will match your lifestyle. A dog is for life, after all!
