Police issue major update after baby, 8 weeks old, ‘murdered’ | UK | News

Two people have been charged with murder after the death of an 8-week-old baby in 2023. Liam Neve, 26, of Spinney Close, Grimoldby, near Louth, and Lauren Murgatroyd, 26, of Novak Place, Morecambe, Lancashire, were both charged on Tuesday night in connection with the infant’s death.

The case has been under investigation for almost three years after police were called to an address in Bourne, Lincolnshire, on October 31, 2023. The baby was taken to the hospital but later died. The charges come after what detectives described as a “complex and large-scale” investigation led by Lincolnshire Police’s Major Crime Unit. Det Ch Insp Andy McWatt said: “Our thoughts are first and foremost with those impacted by this deeply devastating case. We have continued to investigate this tragic death since 2023. This has been a complex and large-scale investigation, and we are now in a position to charge two individuals in connection with the incident.

“We recognise the deep distress this incident has caused and remain committed to seeking justice in memory of the baby who so tragically lost their life.”

Neve faces charges of murder, making a false statement concerning birth, causing or allowing the death of a child, two counts of actual bodily harm (ABH), two counts of grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent, and two counts of causing or allowing a child to suffer serious physical harm.

Murgatroyd has been charged with murder, making a false statement concerning birth, causing or allowing the death of a child, two counts of GBH with intent, and two counts of causing or allowing a child to suffer serious physical harm.

Both defendants are due to appear before Lincoln Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, June 24.
