Donald Trump attempted to drag King Charles into the controversy over the war with Iran last night. The King was welcomed to Washington, DC for a four-day state visit with a dinner at the White House.
Speaking about the current conflict in the Middle East, the President told guests inside the East Room of the White House: “Charles agrees with me.” He added: “We’re doing a little Middle East work right now, … and we’re doing very well.
“We have militarily defeated that particular opponent, and we’re never going to let that opponent ever. Charles agrees with me even more than I do; we’re never going to let that opponent have a nuclear weapon. They know that, and they’ve known it right now, very powerfully.”
Some of the 120 guests at the white-tie event laughed awkwardly following the remark. Meanwhile, Buckingham Palace has not immediately responded to Mr Trump’s comments.
