A beloved gin shop will close at the end of June in a blow for a UK seaside town. Locals have responded to the news, describing the closure as “heartbreaking” and wishing the owners the best for the future.

The Three Wheel Gin Company, in Morecambe, was founded by Catherine Leonard, her husband Peter Leonard, and her father Colin Scott in 2019. The family-owned micro-distellery produced award-winning spirits which were inspired by the comedy show Only Fools and Horses, including their Trotter’s London Gin. Their spirits, which included handcrafted gins, vodkas and fruit liquers, received recognition from Spirit Business Gin Masters Awards, Great Taste Awards, and The Gin Guide.

However, bosses have confirmed that the shop will close at the end of the month, thanking their customers for the support they have offered over the years. They added that stock is still available for anyone fancying a final tipple before they shut for good.

The company said in a statement on Facebook: “After a huge amount of thought, we have made the incredibly difficult decision to close The Three Wheel Gin Company at the end of June.

“What started as a small family idea became something far bigger than we ever imagined. Over the years we have met so many amazing people, worked with incredible local businesses, supported charities close to our hearts, and shared countless conversations, events, laughs and memories along the way.

“To everyone who has bought a bottle, visited us at an event, stocked our products, recommended us to friends, or simply followed and supported our journey – thank you. Every order, message and kind word genuinely meant the world to us, especially as a small independent business.”

They continued: “We are immensely proud of what we created together and grafeful for the opportunities and friendships that came from it. While this chapter is coming to an end, we still have stock available throughout June and would love to see as many familiar faces as possible before we close our doors for the final time.

“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for supporting The Three Wheel Gin Company. Catherine, Colin, Pete and Seb.”
